A KNIGHT TO REMEMBER?

THE VICTORIA Stadium is set for a dramatic opening day with the most successful manager in English football, Sir Alex Ferguson, agreeing to cut the ribbon.

The Manchester United boss was approached by Northwich Victoria some time ago and has since agreed to open the new stadium in the summer.

But that's not all. Sir Alex will also bring a Manchester United team with him to take part in the first match at the new ground, completing Vics' move from the Drill Field to Victoria Stadium.

Speaking at last week's annual meeting Northwich Victoria president Derek Nuttall said: "Three months ago we wrote to Manchester United and after a considerable amount of time Sir Alex Ferguson wrote back saying he would be pleased to open our new ground.

"He also said that he would bring a Manchester United team.

"Obviously we don't expect this to be the first team, it will probably be a Manchester United XI.

"We expect to be in touch again within the next two or three weeks to set a date for the match."

He added: "Sir Alex has said that all we need to do now is contact his secretary and fix the date."

And Shaun Teale is looking forward to pitting his wits against the master.

Speaking yesterday he said: "Obviously this is the kind of test that all managers at a lower level look for.

"It's something a bit different and a chance to get away from the run of the mill Conference games.

"Sir Alex knows everything about his players as many of them have been at the club for years and have grown up as players there.

"But that's life at the top."
