Fan or councillor

I WAS interested to see Cllr Dave Cargill writing his concerns about crowd safety at Halton Stadium.

Obviously he was writing as a fan rather than as a councillor (not using the councillor title in his signature).

Perhaps he wanted value for money for his contribution to the Runcorn v Southport match, in the run up to this year's local elections (not unreasonable, if a little cynical).

Funnily enough, other councillors with an interest in sport just go to matches without announcing it to the world they have been there.

If he is concerned about fans being penned into a small area in the stadium perhaps he should do something about it in the council.

While he's seeking increased space for fans in the stadium (more stewards equals more money) he could insist on Runcorn FC being subsidised for the increased costs.

Then Widnes Vikings could apply for a similar discount on their match costs.

As a fan of both clubs I would welcome that.

See what you've started Cllr Cargill?
