Council says no to industrial plant scheme

PLANNING chiefs have rejected proposals to build an industrial plant in the heart of Dallam, on the grounds that it would have caused traffic congestion and pollution.

Blueprints to build a coated roadstone plant on vacant land at Antrim Road were denied planning permission at a meeting of the borough council's development control committee on Wednesday last week.

Clr Mick Hill, who represents Dallam, objected to Tarmac Central Ltd's plans on the grounds that there was already a great deal of traffic in the area.

He said it was good that the plans had been rejected, because fewer cars on the roads would make it safer for children.

Clr Mike Hannon, ward member for Orford, objected to the plans on the grounds that the plant would have created harmful gas emissions, dust and noise.
