Save our tug

I AM sure many of your mature readers will remember the tug fleet that the Manchester ship canal company used to have based at Old Quay and employed a large part of the town's population, myself included.

Well, the last steam tug/tender the 'Daniel Adamson', which has been left sadly neglected at Ellesmere Port, was offered for scrap.

A group of website-based tug enthusiasts got wind of this and now plans are afoot to save her.

The MSC company have been very co-operative in this matter and we have received all manner of help in various directions from local businesses which would make this a viable proposition

If any of your readers or even ex-MSC employees feel willing to help in any way shape or form could they please contact me via email at kevandjean@talk21.com or write to me, Michael Kevin Hogan, 17 Washford Glen, Didcot, Oxon OX11 7PU.

I can then pass the information forward to the trust fund and hopefully this great piece of ship canal history can be saved.

MK Hogan, Didcot, Oxon
