A STRIKE among university lecturers should not affect working practices at Warrington's university campus.
While members of the Association of University Teachers will walk out on Monday following a dispute over pay, the Padgate campus of University College Chester will remain largely unaffected as the majority of staff belong to the NATFE union.
James Pardow, branch chairman, said: "This is a strike where we will show solidarity but we are not taking part in this ourselves."
Meanwhile the Community and Youth Workers Union, which has some staff employed at Warrington Borough Council, voted by an 87 per cent margin to walk out after March 2 if their call for a fairer deal is not met.
Doug Nicholls, general secretary of the union, said: "Our members, who used to be on a salary par with teachers, now start work on £4,000 a year less than their teaching colleagues."
The union lobbied hard last year to save six community centres in Warrington that were threatened with closure.
