Missing teen's parents face weekend DNA wait

PARENTS of missing teenager Shafilea Ahmed could be waiting over the weekend to find out if the body found in Cumbria is that of their daughter.

Results from DNA tests were expected to be announced today, Friday, but police now say that confirmation is likely to happen on Monday.

Detectives from both Cheshire Police and Cumbria Police are working together to establish the identity of a young woman dragged from the River Kent, near Kendal.

The 17-year-old's parents, Iftikhar and Farzana, were shown items of jewellery recovered from the badly composed body.

They have admitted that the gold zigzag bracelet and blue topaz ring found on the body is 'similar' to jewellery Shafilea would wear.
