Illegally parked cars cause chaos for delivery drivers

I AM a van driver who has drawn the short straw among our drivers (none of who want to do it) so I have to deliver to our outlet in Warrington.

The area where I have to park to make my delivery is the street behind McDonald's (Barbauld Street).

In this street there is a parking area on the left for disabled parking and two areas on the right for loading/unloading.

The areas for unloading are always full of illegally parked cars or vehicles, some with notices in the windows saying working on building site. The problem then occurs that people like myself who are just trying to do their job have to illegally park and block the street and then have to reverse the full length of the street into the bus lane to get out.

The 'I have got a disabled badge so I can park anywhere' brigade are among the worst offenders for parking in the loading bays but if they could be bothered to open their badges and read them they would find out that there are quite a few places where they cannot park (doing this could save them some money in fines).

If people keep stopping the delivery vehicles from doing their jobs then they will not have to bother parking in the loading bays because there will be nothing in the shops to buy because nothing will be delivered. So next time you park illegally in these bays you not only risk a fine, you are stopping the things you are parking illegally to buy, being delivered.

The good news is it seems you can park illegally anywhere in Warrington if you put a 'working on building site' sign or 'working in a shop' sign in your window, the police and traffic wardens usually ignore these illegally parked vehicles.
