Family enjoys a golden get-together

A GOLDEN couple celebrated 50 years of marriage at the Riverbank nursing home in Howley, with all four generations of their family.

Phil and Joyce Hampton, aged 77 and 76 respectively, marked their golden wedding anniversary on February 6 with a family get-together.

Mrs Hampton said: "It was a beautiful day. I couldn't get over it. The staff at Riverbank were marvellous. We've had that many presents and flowers, I don't know what to do with them."

The couple met more than 53 years ago at Fletchers Dance Club, off Wilderspool Causeway.

Mrs Hampton now volunteers for the Stroke Group after her husband suffered two strokes, which severely disabled him.

Lynn Yates, the couple's daughter, came to the bash with her own daughter, Gemma, aged 19, and Phil and Joyce's great-grandson, Connor Gerrard, aged two.

Phil and Joyce have a son and a daughter, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
