We want our bollards back, say pedestrians

THE ongoing problems at Callands Shopping Centre are getting worse, with broken paving stones causing extra headaches for pedestrians.

Six months ago, bollards were removed from the edge of the car park and councillors have reported problems with inconsiderate drivers leaving their cars on the pavement, leading to paving stones being broken.

Clr Garry Cross said: "The block paving on which the irresponsible and lazy drivers are parking their cars is now beginning to deform quite badly, no doubt spurred on by the weather too, which means resurfacing is now going to be needed as well as new bollards.

"Some drivers take it upon themselves to virtually get their cars inside the shops!"

A grant bid, submitted to the borough council's environmental improvement fund, aimed at revamping the centre, failed in December, so parish councillors are now looking for alternative funding, and have written to Waste Recycling Environmental Limited.
