Factory gets set to

bring home the bacon

JOBSEEKERS in Winsford should keep their eyes peeled for opportunities as a major new employer gets set to take on hundreds of workers.

Construction work is proceeding quickly at the Harris Bacon Factory in Wharton, with new owners Grampian Country Foods Groups (GCFG) close to releasing details of the jobs that will be available.

The new warehouses and factories at the site will come under the banner of GCFG Winsford, as bosses scrap the Harris name.

A spokesman for the company said on Monday that GCFG were still "pulling the plans together" but added that job advertisements are expected to start in around four to six weeks' time.

And Clr Keith Musgrave, leader of Vale Royal Borough Council, voiced his support for the possibilities of economic regeneration in the town.

He said: "I am delighted that Grampian Foods have been able to use an existing site to create these new jobs.

"We have worked very closely with GCFG and the Jobcentre to support this development, which underpins our ongoing work to ensure the re-generation of the borough in line with the Community Plan for Vale Royal.

"I'd like to wish GCFG every success in our borough."

Buses

However, the GCFG spokesman expressed fears about plans by the administration at Cheshire County Council to withdraw subsidised evening buses across Winsford and Vale Royal in this year's budget.

The spokesman said: "If any public transport is in risk of being lost, then that would be of concern to us, especially with the shift work that goes on at all our sites.

"In view of how people would get to work, it could have an impact."
