Work initiative is just the job

A NEW initiative to help people in Halton find work has been launched by community action group The Work Shop.

Action for Jobs aims to break down the obstacles stopping people from all walks of life finding employment.

Alison Clarke, co-ordinator of the engagement team, whose mobile drop-in unit was in Widnes town centre last week, said: "No matter what a person's situation is, we can help them on the way to finding a job.

Response

"We have had a fantastic response so far this week. The mobile unit really helps us get out and about so that we can make people aware of what we can do for them if they register with us.

"People's reactions have been very positive so far but it's funny how people are curious but don't venture in.

"I hope that by engaging with the public more, people will benefit from our service," she said.

The Work Shop provides help to a variety of people with all sorts of work-related queries, from training courses to setting up a business.

"We have helped single parents, housewives, students, pensioners, people on benefits, the works," Alison said. "We are totally flexible in what we provide and who we can help."

Anyone who registers their details will be given information about local job opportunities that match their skills and needs.

The mobile unit will be launched in Runcorn at the start of March, outside Iceland in Halton Lea.
