Rhinos charge down Hornets

Widnes Moorfield

Rhinos U8s 28

Halton Hornets U8s 12

Moorfield started the season in great style over powering a never-say-die Hornets side.

The Hornets started with the ball but couldn't make much ground as the Moorfield youngsters defended superbly.

On the first play opposition man of the match Jonathan Furnival scored a fantastic individual try going the full length of the pitch.

The Hornets came back and forced their way over on the last tackle after some heroics in defence.

Just like the first Moorfield try Liam Murnane scored a fine solo try to take Moorfield into the lead.

Hornets scored again to level only for the parents' man of the match Lewis Scott to score a great try and then the Hornets to level again.

At 12-12 Hornets never got near the Moorfield line again. Daniel Richardson scored a fantastic try off a well-worked move as did Scott and Moorfield went in 20-12 at the break.

The second half Moorfield's hard work paid off when, after good runs from Dylan Bennett, Liam Davies, David Richardson and Jonathan Townsend, Connor Fitzpatrick, a quick play-the-ball enabled top tackler Kyle Gleavey to score under the posts.

Scott completed his hat-trick in fine style scoring the best of his tries after beating the entire Hornets defence on the way to the line.

Moorfield U8s are running two sides and are on the look out for any new players, training is on Saturdays 11am to noon at Moorfield Sports and Social Club, anybody is welcome regardless of ability.
