No more than three houses

HOUSES can be built on the former site of Padgate Nursery but there will be no more than three, after councillors intervened to limit the scale of the work.

Residents petitioned the borough council's development control committee amid concerns that the building could cause even more pressure on the already congested traffic network in the area.

They told the committee that with roads in the area already suffering from too much traffic and proving difficult for motorists to negotiate, more cars could not be accommodated.

But in approving outline plans for the site, councillors imposed a strict condition that any development should only include three houses and should not be more than two storeys in height.

Clr Albert Clemow said: "This could be two houses or a block of 16 apartments. I am not happy about approving this without some detail."

The developers will now submit a more detailed plan.
