LET DOWN BY ERRORS

CONSISTENCY is the key to ongoing success according to Winsford United manager Dave Twite.

Twite has seen his side outclass almost every side pitted against them so far this season and has experienced several excellent results.

Yet he has also witnessed some poor results which have caused his side's promotion push to falter.

And it was one such result which blighted Winsford's recent good run on Saturday.

The Blues crashed to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of third place Ashton Town and are now eight points adrift of their opponents when a win would have left the gap between the two at just two points.

Twite said: "Frankly some players just didn't perform at 100 per cent and I've got to get across to them that they need to be performing at 100 per cent week in, week out if they want to go places.

"We did still play quite well and in the second half put their keeper under so much pressure that he was named man of the match.

"We had effort after effort but it just wouldn't go in for us.

"Unfortunately in the first half we made too many defensive errors and these allowed Ashton to score four of their goals - they really didn't have to play well to score.

"Basically the errors cost us the game."

He added: "I kept the lads in for about an hour after the game chatting to them and telling them what I expect.

"Although they didn't play badly and I was more gutted when we lost 1-0 to an own goal at Darwen than losing 5-1 here.

"Unfortunately Dave Chambers dropped out just before the match and we really missed him but he should be back for this weekend and hopefully we can get back to winning ways.

"I would hope that we can as I can't see this kind of result happening again.

"It hasn't happened in the previous 21 games so there's no reason why it should happen again."

And Twite is convinced that he has the personnel to continue the push towards promotion at the end of the season.

He added: "There will be no drastic changes because I'm certain that what we have here at Winsford is good enough."
