Wids U16s conquer Caldy

Caldy U16s 0

Widnes U16s 60

WIDS U16s were in top form scoring 10 outstanding tries in difficult conditions.

They were quickly into their stride and centre Craig Nelson finished off a sweeping attack scoring out wide.

The forwards were winning a plentiful supply of ball in the second phase and it was not long before winger Danny Woods found himself in space, cleverly jinking his way to the line.

Nelson, Woods and Kevin Farrow added further tries to leave the half-time score at 29-0.

The scoreline did not reflect the good work put in by the big home pack either side of the break. The visitor's defence was severely tested as the Caldy forwards drove close to the Widnes line but some brave tackling managed to stem the tide.

The home side competed well in the second half for 15 minutes until Andy White took a short pass from Nelson, burst through two tackles and crashed over beneath the posts.

The kick-off did not go 10 metres and centre Adam Higham caught the ball on the full and used his pace to get past a flat-footed defence.

Caldy heads dropped and three more tries followed in quick succession.

Winger Matty Buckle continued his rich vein of form when he powered over and then Woods completed his hat-trick before full back Dan Jackson came into the line and scored out wide.
