IT instructor is in the driving seat

AN IT instructor has become the first person in the world to gain a pioneering computer qualification.

Halton College tutor Lorraine Dowd, 42, sat level four of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) in just one day!

It is the world's leading computer skills certification programme, now being taught to 3.5 million people in 135 countries.

ECDL is a 'not for profit' organisation dedicated to helping people become more computer literate.

Lorraine says she is often asked by students if it would help them master the controls of a car!

"When they ask about the ECDL and the course is explained to them, sometimes you get the reply: "Oh, I wondered how you could teach me how to drive on the computer!"

You don't need any prior knowledge of IT or computer skills to enrol.

"I believe ECDL to be an excellent qualification that local employers are now looking towards," said Lorraine.

"It gives candidates knowledge and skills on a range of computer skills and covers areas that other qualifications do not cover at this level."
