Kirby bliss for Mond

Mond Rangers 3 Pavilions 2

Carlsberg West Cheshire League

GOALS in the first and last minute proved decisive in this West Cheshire league derby.

The game had an eventful start, Droughton bringing a save from Kirby in the Pavilion's goal within 10 seconds.

Play moved to the other end with Farrington hitting a 25-yard effort at Mond keeper Percival.

Mond took the lead when Matty Nelson powered his way through and hammered home.

Thompson saw a goal-bound corner headed away by his own player and then saw Kirby catch his lob on the six-yard line.

Pavilions equalised when a superb ball from Enamu split the Mond defence for Farrington to score.

Mond took the lead again when, after a poor clearance, Nelson won the ball and beat Kirby at the near post.

After the break Pavilions took control, Vaughan impressive with his control and distribution.

Mond conceded an equaliser when they lost the ball wide on the right, the resulting cross saw veteran striker Carl Thomas beat Percival from 10 yards.

Mond responded well and with the introduction of all their subs began to create chances.

A last minute cross by Bushell found Nelson on the back post, Kirby blocked his first effort but could not keep out his second to complete a hat-trick.

Mond's Man of the match was Matty Nelson, Pavilions was Robbie Gibbons.

Mond's bonanza was won by June Allen and the consolation prize went to Kath Houghton.

Next Saturday Mond Rangers play General Chemicals in the semi final of the Runcorn FA Senior Cup at Pavilions, kick-off 1.15pm.

In the other semi final, General Chemicals Reserves play Moore Utd again at Pavilions on Sunday. Both Sunday semi finals at Pavilions kick-off at 11am.
