BARLA calling for applications

BARLA is now calling for applications from member clubs for the prestigious Foundation for Sport and the Arts, and CCPR, Sports Club of the Year Awards 2004.

Shaw Cross Sharks ARLFC, who received the first prize along with extensive local and national media exposure, won this prestigious National award back in 1998.

The decision of the Sports Club of the Year judging panel is final and the successful clubs will be contacted by telephone on or before Friday, April 9.

This year the awards will be presented by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at the CCPR National Conference in London on Thursday, April 29.

The competition organisers are looking for clubs that:

l Encourage more people to take part in sport or recreation and sets standards to which other clubs aspire to

l Have a proven track record in working with schools, local authorities and other community organisations

l Have managed to provide successfully for young people and disadvantaged groups

This year the prizes are as follows: First prize £6,000; second prize £3,000; third prize £1,000.

Applications can only be made through the Association, up to a maximum of three.

All applications will be presented to BARLA officials for selection after Friday, March 5, before the final nominations are submitted ahead of the deadline on Friday, March 19. Clubs that were unsuccessful in their application last year are strongly urged to re-apply this year.

If you believe that your club has what it takes to become the FSA & CCPR Sports Club of the Year 2004 then please contact Tom Hoyle at the BARLA offices to request an application form on 01484 544131 or e-mail tom.hoyle@barla.org.uk
