Albion lose to late late show

Orrell St James 32 Widnes Albion 16

TWO tries in the last 10 minutes gave Orrell a somewhat flattering scoreline against Albion.

Again fielding a depleted side, they were 12-0 down going into the interval when prop Paul Davies crashed onto a short ball and went over taking a couple of tacklers with him.

Gary Richardson converted and at 6-12 the visitors were back in the game.

An early six pointer to Orrell looked very doubtful as the referee missed a blatant knock-on but this was cancelled out when Chris Freeman crossed by the posts.

Richardson again converted and at 18-12 it was anyone's game with 30 minutes to play.

The Albion had hard luck when Ste Littler was tackled into the corner flag as he touched down after good work by Craig Wood and Geoff Jackson while Danny Ruth was faultless at full back and Kev Blythin and Freeman had their usual solid games.

A try to both sides left the score at 16-22 with 10 minutes to go, the Albion's score being landed by Paul Davies' second of the game.

But Orrell landed 10 points in the last two minutes to wrap the game up.

The Albion travel to Ulverston on Saturday looking to pick up two league points, kick-off 2.30pm.
