ALMOST two years of highly inventive fund raising and sheer hard work had its reward when pleased-as-punch students held a special assembly to celebrate the delivery of their new minibus.
Parents, pupils and teachers at Mill Green School in Newton-le-Willows have walked, run, bungee jumped, staged jumble sales, held quiz nights and hurled themselves out of planes to help hit their target.
After more than a year of hard work, they had £19,000 in the kitty, when head teacher Paul Cronin approached The Lord's Taverners, a charitable organisation, which raises money for special needs schools.
They agreed to match the £19,000, allowing them to at last get their specially adapted 16-seated minibus.
Charles Hurst and Darlene Storrar of Lord's Taverners presented the bus to the school.
Nursery Nurse Val Campbell thanked all those who helped, including many local businesses.
She said that the bus will be used to transport the children on residential holidays and on large-scale activities.
