Having a big say in YOUR future

OUR two MPs reckon it's good to talk... and that's why they want to ensure the people of St Helens get a big say in their own future.

Dave Watts and Shaun Woodward are holding a special meeting on Thursday, February 12 at Rainhill High School, as part of the Big Conversation, when townsfolk from all sections of the community will be able to discuss "Crime and Community" issues.

Dave said: " A lot has been achieved in the town over the last years, but as we look towards the future it's important for any government to listen to what people think are the challenges and needs for the years to come. "

Some of the subjects to be discussed at Rainhill High will include; how do we make our communities safer, how do we ensure security and well-being in older age and how do we tackle poverty and inequality?

Shaun said: "The issues of crime and community are central to the future of St Helens. We need to make sure that rights and responsibilities are balanced, that we can all live in a fair society free from the fear of crime.

"Dave and I want to join in a conversation with police, tenants groups, churches and anyone who has a view on the subject to see what we should be doing next. We want to put the voices of people in St Helens centre stage."

The evening will be chaired by Star editor, Steve Leary, who said: "I really hope we can produce something positive for the people of St Helens at this meeting. It is vital that our representatives are made aware of the real issues identified by our community.

"Afterwards, I shall be inviting our readers to write in to the Star with their views on the outcome of the meeting and about the subjects discussed."

So come and have your say on this issue or others you want to raise. You can apply for a ticket by calling Jenny Dodd at the office of Shaun Woodward MP on 01744 24226.
