Talk to us first, residents tell borough council

THE chairman of Collins Green Residents' Association has hit out at the borough council for sending questionnaires to elderly people in the village and not consulting the group first.

Les Kay, of Penkford Road, says that the leaflets, which ask for residents' views on a wide range of services, have been sent to people in their 80s and 90s who haven't been outside for years.

Mr Kay added: "The council seems to be targeting old people, offering entry to a prize draw for a DVD player if they reply.

"What does a woman of 92 want with a DVD player?

"They should ask the residents' group first and we can talk to these people and find out what they think."

Peter Connell, from the borough council's neighbourhood services department, said that sending questionnaires to a random sample of residents provides a broader view of public opinion.

He added: "After we have collated all the feedback, we meet with ward members and residents' groups to put together a joint action plan, which will prioritise improvements within their area."
