Meeting on the dance floor led to 60 years of marriage

A HAPPY married couple from Dallam, who met on the dance floor more than 61 years ago, will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary on Sunday.

Frank and Marie Percival, aged 83 and 84 respectively, of Longshaw Street, told the Guardian that it only seems like yesterday when they met at a dance club in Bewsey.

Marie said: "It doesn't seem like that long. We met at St Alban's dance club. We all used to go there in a big gang."

Marie would often play records and Frank says that she was one of the first DJs.

Frank served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and earned five medals.

They were married on February 8, 1944, shortly before Frank went into action at Normandy on D-Day - he was a medic on a landing craft.

Marie would regularly write him letters while she worked at the Royal Ordnance factory in Risley.

After the war, Marie became a staff cook at Boots Chemists and Frank went into shoe repairs at Roberts and Son.

They have four children, 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Frank joked: "After 60 years I have finally got her just where she wants me!"
