Licensee fined

A LICENSEE who admitted selling alcohol to a girl under the age of 18 has been fined £200 and ordered to pay £200 costs by Runcorn Magistrates.

Aftab Quayyam, 38, pleaded guilty, last Wednesday, in his capacity as licensee of Ascot Stores in Ascot Avenue, Runcorn.

Quayyam, of Newlyn Gardens, Penketh, was prosecuted by the consumer protection division of Halton Council.

His brother, Mumtaz Quayyam, a shop assistant, admitted selling a bottle of Red Square loganberry to a 14-year-old girl at his brother's shop.

Mumtaz, of Castle Green, Westbrook, Warrington, was fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 costs when he appeared in court on November 5, 2003.
