Bad motoring is driving Brian crazy!

STANDARDS of driving are declining, claims a Warrington Euro MP.

Brian Simpson says that a council on road safety will be held in the European parliament this year with the aim of tackling the problem.

He said: "When people get behind the wheel of a car, some of them have a personality change and become aggressive, possessive, impatient and totally unreasonable people.

"In addition, everybody believes they are a good driver and everyone else is a bad one and you can see the scale of the problem."

Mr Simpson referred to a study done in Saudi Arabia, which concluded that women are the cause of most road accidents - even though they are not allowed to drive.

Jeddah University claims that women passengers questioning the quality of their husband's driving leads to disagreements and then to a crash.

Mr Simpson said: "My view is that bad driving is not confined to one sex, but to have women blamed when they are not even driving is a bit much!

"However, it does highlight the problem we have not only in Britain but also throughout Europe - standards of driving are declining and the death toll on our roads remains at an unacceptable level."

The European parliament will be looking to introduce legislation to make roads safer as a result of the discussions to take place this year.
