Bacup battle

WARRINGTON Town will play Bacup home and away in the semi-finals of the North West Counties Challenge Trophy if they can succeed in the quarter-finals.

Their last eight tie at Woodley Sports on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rescheduled for next Tuesday.

On the positive side, midfield maestro Terry Nestor's seven-day suspension would have ruled him out of the original Woodley game but he should be available next week.

Twelfth-placed Town are away to sixth-placed Alsager Town in a North West Counties Soccer League Division One game on Saturday and there could be two new players on show.

Joint manager Glenn Walker has snapped up the services of Gary Jones, a 23-year-old utility defender, from Congleton plus 23-year-old Stuart Harkness, a nippy left winger, from Glossop North End.

Harkness used to play in the same college team as Town's star striker Mike Heverin.

Paul Ireland is also available for selection again after injury.
