North West Counties junior and youth Rugby League round-up

Latchford Albion u11 0

St Maries Dragons u11 30

THE cruel score line does not reflect the endeavour put in by Latchford against organised and skilful opponents.

Pleasing debuts were made by Lynch and Woolacott.

Culcheth Eagles u12 30

Grappenhall u12 0

AN ever improving Culcheth side showed plenty of fighting spirit against a gutsy Grappenhall side.

Good handling from Greg Hamilton laid the platform for Culcheth to play open Rugby League.

Sam Stretch also shone for Culcheth. He scored a try and was their top tackler.

Culcheth's other try scorers were Logan Nelson, Matt Buxton, Sam Rogers and Sam Fisher.

Parkside Golborne u12 18

Burtonw'd Bulldogs u12 10

BURTONWOOD had ample opportunity to win this cracking game but they repeatedly squandered good field position.

Neat handling and quality finishing resulted in tries for Robbie Batty and Adam Bellas while Nathan Glover, Joss Blackburn, Craig Rimmer, Anthony Bailey and Adam Gorman all stood out in a fine team effort.

Mayfield Mustangs u12 0

Latchford Albion u12 8

TWO evenly matched sides fought out a classic game of Rugby League.

Two Josh Stanger tries swung the game in Latchford's favour.

Player of the match John Hewitt topped the tackle count while Latchford's unsung hero award went to Tom Southworth.

Rylands Sharks u12 8

Crosfields u12 0

THIS was an excellent 'derby' match in which both sides gave their all from start to finish.

There was plenty of skill on show in an end-to-end encounter and Rylands' two tries were scored either side of half-time by Jordan Burke.

Anthony Whelan was their top tackler and Joe Clarke was their player of the match.

Crosfields' top tackler was Rob Mally and Liam Reid was their player of the match.

Latchford Albion u13 22

Folly Lane u13 14

LATCHFORD showed immense spirit and determination to recover from a 14-0 deficit and inflict the first defeat of the season on Folly Lane.

The half back pairing of Ashley Cornelia and Joe Mellor was the inspiration behind the comeback.

Matt Lomax and Ben Reynolds also excelled while Latchford's tries were scored by Lee Vaughan, Tom Rigby, Jack Probert and Antony Britton.

Woolston Rovers u13 12

New Springs Legion u13 38

ANY chance Woolston had of competing in this fixture were undone by a multitude of forced and unforced handling errors against a physical New Springs side.

Woolston's try scorer was O' Shea, who touched down on two occasions. Thorpe and Hillen added the extras while Garner tackled well throughout.

Latchford Albion u14 12

Haydock u14 26

LATCHFORD came up short against Haydock despite playing some excellent Rugby League.

The try scorers for Latchford were A Pemberton and B Sheen.

Player of the match M Smith added the extras on both occasions and Latchford's top tackler was R Sheen.

Blackbrook u14 6

Crosfields u14 0

CROSFIELDS put in a tremendous performance but they failed to end Blackbrook's unbeaten start to the season.

They worked their socks off throughout and their star performers were Simon Counsell, Chris Lee and debut boy Will Stringer.

Widnes Moorfield u15 0

Latchford Albion u15 64

LATCHFORD progressed to the next round of the North West Counties Challenge Cup with a stylish win against lower league opposition.

The try scorers for Latchford were Josh Hough, Ste Fisher, two, Gary Grindley, Joe Gandy, two, Mike Linaker, two and Lee Mitchell, three.

Mike and J Smith added three and two goals respectively. Josh Hough, Tristan Keddie and D Hill also made good contributions.
