State-of-the-art play area is on the way

CHILDREN living on the Glebe Green Estate should soon be able to enjoy a new state-of-the-art play area.

Muir Group Housing Association has confirmed that, along with Winsford Town Council, it has donated cash to be spent on creating the fun facility next to the estate shop.

A letter to the Guardian, from a resident who wants to remain anonymous, claimed that since the Muir Group took over social housing on the estate there had been nowhere for children to play.

The resident said: "Now there is nothing. The children can't even play with a ball without getting into trouble.

"Is it any wonder that there is an increase in vandalism when our children can't even play near their own homes?

"All children deserve a normal childhood and that means being able to play safely outdoors without getting into trouble."

But Sam Scott, director of housing at the association, defended conditions on the estate. He said: "There is currently no designated area for children to play but there are enough green areas in the estate and around it for them to play safely around their homes.

"And we have recently secured some funding from Muir Group's charitable arm and the town council to install a proper young children's play area next to the shop. It should go up in the next few months."

Mr Scott added that facilities such as a football area could also be created for older children as the association carried out consultations to see what sort of facilities youngsters wanted on their estate.
