HORNETS maintained their unbeaten run with a hard-earned victory over Hindley.

The home side took the lead with a try from Ryan Risley who powered over out wide.

The Wigan side countered using a good kicking game to put the home side on the back foot.

A lapse in concentration allowed the visitors to cross the whitewash, the conversion was successful.

Hornets made good yards with runs from Liam Hulme and Lewis Shingler. This set up Jamie Hurstfield to crash over, Gareth O'Brien converting to give the home side a 10-6 interval lead.

Tactical kicks from both sides created good yard advantage but it was Hindley who capitalised on a mistake by the home side to level.

The next score went to the Widnes side when O'Brien kicked deep into the opponent's 22 and Andrews Stevens-Davies gave chase and put pressure on the defender who fumbled allowing him to gather and dive over. Hurstfield converted to give Hornets a six point lead.

The Wigan side came back to score in the corner to reduce the arrears to two points.

Time was running out when Hornets, from midfield, broke the cover defence.

Hulme latched onto a long ball from O'Brien who showed the visitors a clean pair of heels to run 40 yards for a great score out wide.

In the dying seconds the visitors went looking for a draw, but a little kick through was bravely gathered by Jonathan Crank the full back taking a kick in the face for his trouble.
