A LATCHFORD man with a history of alcohol problems died after collapsing just yards from his home, a coroners' court heard.
Lee Hobson, aged 38, had suffered with alcoholism for a number of years and had developed a form of epilepsy that caused him to suffer a number of falls.
The court, sitting at Warrington, was told that the former paint-sprayer, of Bowman Avenue, had gone to get some cigarettes for his wife Kay when he was last seen on August 21 last year.
Coincidentally, his common law brother-in-law, James Hurst, was driving past minutes later and saw a man collapsed on the ground whom he recognised as Mr Hobson. Although attempts were made to revive Mr Hobson, he died in the early hours of the following morning. Post mortem examinations revealed he suffered a fractured skull, which was likely to have been caused by a fall.
Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg said he was as sure as he could be that Mr Hobson's death had been caused by a fall.
He said: "He may have fallen on to the back of his head because if he had a fit, there would be a loss of consciousness. Clearly this injury would not have been caused deliberately."
He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
