Star goldenheart wings in to make Isobel very happy

A GOLDENHEARTED woman has helped to put the smile back on the face of wheelchair bound pensioner Isobel Croft who was left distraught when a bird table bought for her by her son as a Mother's Day present earlier this year was stolen.

The story featured in the Star a few weeks ago told of how thieves stole the table with a roof, belonging to Isobel (75) from the garden area at the back of Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home in Mulcrow Close, Parr.

Isobel's son Andrew Croft (41) was going to replace the table himself but then he received some excellent news.

Mary Corrigan (58) who lives with her husband James (56) in Mendip Grove, Parr, read our article and in the space of a couple of days had got in touch with the nursing home where she used to work in the laundry and said she had a bird table which she could give them.

The couple who are moving to Fleetwood near Blackpool at the end of the month felt it would be the perfect going away present to donate the bird table.

Mary, told the Star: "When I read what had happened I was absolutely disgusted. I have lived in St Helens for 11 years and really enjoyed my time here. I am looking forward to moving to pastures new and to think I have done something positive for the local community before I leave fills me with a sense of pride."

Andrew, told the Star: "The generous gift Mary has given to us has put our faith back into people. When I told Isobel the news her face lit up and she is so happy to think a replacement bird table has been donated.

"I would like to thank the St Helens Star for their hard work, Mary herself for the kindness she has shown and also to the staff at Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home and in particular activities organiser Joan Leyland who has worked tirelessly with us from the very beginning."
