MORE than three quarters of voters in an online poll believe plans for a North West Regional Assembl

Yesterday (Tuesday) 30 of the 39 people who gave their opinion on the new form of local government were against it.

If the public votes for a North West Regional Assembly in October the way Knutsford is governed will change.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott wants England's regions to be run by their own mini parliaments.

But four months ago Tatton MP George Osborne formed the North West Says No group to fight Labour's plans for a Wigan-based authority.

The group's online poll was launched in December to ask if people supported plans for the regional assembly.

In the Internet vote, which uses web technology so people can register only once, four said plans for the assembly were about right and five said it should have more power.
