Powerful drama on the big screen

KNUTSFORD Studio Cinema continues it contemporary film season on Monday with Whale Rider (PG) at 8pm.

In a small New Zealand coastal village, Maori claim descent from Paikea, the Whale Rider.

When twins are born and the boy twin dies, the chief Koro is unable to accept his granddaughter Pai as a future leader.

A few years later, Koro is convinced that the tribe's misfortunes began at Pai's birth and calls for his people to bring their sons to him in the hope that the new leader is among them.

Pai loves Koro more than anyone in the world, but she must stand up to him and 1,000 years of tradition to reveal the true way forward.

Meanwhile The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (12A) remains at Knutsford Studio Cinema as the main attraction.

The final film in J R Tolkien's trilogy will be screened nightly at 7.30pm, except Monday, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday. For tickets call the cinema on 01565 633005.
