Pub to be replaced with housing

THE Bridge Inn, in Frodsham, is to be torn down and replaced by a housing development.

The planning committee at Vale Royal Borough Council approved an application by Caron Homes last Tuesday for the demolition of the pub, on Bridge Lane and the building of 19 apartments and five town houses.

The decision was made despite objections from some residents and Frodsham Town Council concerning parking and traffic issues.

Nigel Atkins, director at Caron Homes, said: "It goes without saying how pleased we are that our application has been approved.

"There is quite a lot of work to be done now with building regulations in the next three months.

"We put this project together and were guided by the planning department.

"We were not trying to do anything fancy. We sought their advice and put together a good scheme."

Landlady Caroline Moores and her husband Nigel have been running the pub for three years.

They said they are welcoming the development by Caron Homes as they have not enjoyed as much success with the business as they hoped.

Caroline said: "We are happy that the application has gone through as it frees us from the lease.

"The business here just isn't taking off as well as we had hoped."

Mr and Mrs Moores are due to leave the pub in a couple of months time but are hoping to stay in Frodsham with their four children.

Caron Homes will then start work on its housing project.
