Crowbar thugs threaten women in club raid

THREE women were left terrified by two armed robbers at Haydock Conservative Club.

The raid at the club on Church Road, happened at about 8.10am on Monday morning, and comes just ten days after a 65-year-old Haydock man was tied up and robbed in his own home by a gang of three. Detectives, however, say they are not currently linking the two raids.

During the robbery on Monday two men carrying a knife and a crowbar entered the club while two cleaners were working. A spokeswoman for the club said a thug told one of the cleaners he would "break her leg" if she did anything.

The men waited for another female member of staff to arrive at the club, before forcing her to open the safe. Police say the men escaped with cash, but did not say how much. Both men wore dark clothing, balaclavas and spoke with a Liverpool accent.

Witnesses or those with information can contact police on 0151 777 6083 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
