Clean-up bid from council

COUNCIL officers joined residents of Orford and Longford last week to herald the start of a new clean-up scheme across their wards.

Councillors also got in on the act and lent a hand to wipe the streets clean and tidy up public areas to mark the launch of the Street Scene Scheme in their area.

Whereas previously the council's neighbourhood services department would deal separately with street cleaning, grass cutting and the removal of graffiti now the new team brings everyone together to tackle every aspect at once, thus creating a more efficient and effective service.

Stephen Murphy, borough council community development officer, said: "The feedback from the day has been very positive and we very much enjoyed working with the Street Scene team on its launch. Councillors Mike Hannon, Kate Hannon and Terry Whelan all took part on the day and were very supportive to all involved. It was a very enjoyable community spirited day and its success was due to the interaction of all parties."

Clr John Kerr-Brown, executive member responsible for neighbourhood services, said: "There is one point of contact, with a direct link with the communities in which they operate and it really is helping to improve the quality of the environment here in Warrington.

"Residents have seen a tremendous improvement in their areas and the feedback we have received has been fantastic. Street Scene is providing a successful formula to model the future delivery of joined up services in Warrington."

The scheme will be rolled out across the whole borough from April.
