THE 'jewel' in Halton's crown is in the running for Britain's biggest arts prize.
Norton Priory Museum has been shortlisted for the Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year, the largest £100,000 award given annually to one museum.
"We are delighted to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award," said Steve Miller, trust director.
"We hope the local and regional community will support our nomination by registering via our website or the Gulbenkian website."
Their unique work with Astmoor Day Services, one of Halton Borough Council's day centres for adults with a learning disability, has been nominated for the award.
Perception
A positive partnerships project to create a medieval herb garden was screened on BBC2 Hidden Gardens last Friday, changing people's perception of adults with a learning disability.
"Our work with Astmoor Day Services is an inspirational partnership," said Steve.
If they won, the money would be used to improve disabled facilities.
Runcorn MP Mike Hall, said: "Norton Priory Museum is the jewel in the crown of Halton.
Excellent
"There are many excellent facets to this first class facility - the ancient priory grounds, the Georgian walled garden and the world class statue of St Christopher.
"A decade of working with adults with learning difficulties places this museum at the top of the tree."
