Centre given go ahead

A PIONEERING 24 hour walk-in health centre has been given the green light.

Two GP practices and two branch surgeries will be moving into Widnes Health Care Resource Centre, with dentists, health visitors, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, midwives, nurses and pharmacists.

Building work on the three-storey development, opposite the bus depot in Caldwell Road, starts next month.

Thousands of patients will transfer. The surgeries moving include Dr Stanley of Newtown Health Centre, Lugsdale Road; Dr Saleemi of Town House, Highfield Medical Centre, Highfield Road; Dr Pandey of Park Road and the five partner practice at Peelhouse Medical Plaza, Peelhouse Lane.

The Single Regeneration Budget granted £280,000 to buy the land and £1m towards the cost of construction.

Permission

William Pears Group won planning permission to build the centre from members of the development, control and licensing committee last week.

It will offer a range of health care services and follows months of extensive consultation with staff and patients.

There will be 72 car parking spaces, including disabled provision.

The centre will replace Kingsway health centre and be similar in design to Kingsway House.
