Service welcomes speeding ticket news

MERSEY Regional Ambulance Service has welcomed news the Government is planning to reduce the paperwork needed to sort out speeding tickets.

Ambulances racing to emergency call-outs in Cheshire and Merseyside can pass several cameras at high speeds, leading to an automatic fine being generated and sent out by the authorities.

Concern has become so great the service now has the equivalent of one part time post dealing exclusively with the paperwork involved to prove the vehicles were actually responding to an emergency.

Emergency control manager, Gavin Bryce, said: "This is a serious issue that is seemingly getting worse rather than better.

"Any efforts to help reduce the red tape around this issue are very much welcomed.

"We could certainly free up our resources to deal with other more pressing issues if the bureaucracy was relaxed."
