When a stranger calls!

ELDERLY and vulnerable people need to take special care when strangers call.

Conmen posing as all kinds of officials can try and trick their way in.

Thankfully Halton has seen a lull in this kind of crime but people need to be vigilant to make sure it doesn't start up again.

Crime Reduction Advisor Phil Buckley says a few simple steps can keep you and your property safe. He kindly agreed to play the role of an unknown caller for the World at an elderly woman's house to show us how to deal with a strange caller.

After his photo shoot Phil said: "The advice I am giving to people is simple - if in doubt, keep them out - don't let a caller into your home if you are unsure.

"The 'Stop, Chain, Check' message is easy to remember and could make all the difference if someone tries to con their way into your property."
