WARRINGTON'S new multi-million pound bus station has taken another step forward with the appointment of architects Jefferson Sheard.

The Manchester-based company were awarded the almost £800,000 contract at Monday's borough council executive board meeting and will take on the design, engineering, surveying and supervision of the scheme over the next two years.

Clr Linda Dirir, executive member for transport for Warrington Borough Council, said: "I am very happy that we have secured the services of an experienced team to take this project on to the next stage.

"We can now look forward to a bright future for public transport, which complements the inspiring new developments planned for the town centre."

Meanwhile, Tom Rhys Lones, of Jefferson Sheard, said his company has developed more than a dozen new interchanges in recent years.

The work is expected to begin later this year with an opening planned for October 2005.
