THE reverend of a Crewe church ravaged by vandals, has issued an appeal for help in repairing the building.
Yobs smashed some 35 windows in the New Testament Church Of God on Stewart Street in November.
And although the building was insured, the repeated vandalism at the church has meant that the clergy can only re-insure it if the windows are replaced with toughened glass and security measures such as CCTV are installed.
This has left the church facing a bill of thousands of pounds if it is ever to replace the boarded up windows.
Reverend George Latty said: "They have told us they will not insure us unless we take these extra measures.
"While the insurers will pay for the damage to the original windows, we have to find the money somewhere for the upgrades.
"The security measures alone have cost some £700.
"We are now looking at various ways of raising money and are looking for donations to help us meet the costs. People have already donated some £200 and we are really grateful for that.
"We have managed to keep the church open, but it is very depressing and dark inside."
The night of destruction at the church happened on a Friday night, as vandals hurled bricks, bottles and pieces of wood through every window in the building.
Anyone who can help can contact Reverend Latty on 505856.
