Conservatory can remain

A BEWSEY couple breathed a sigh of relief when borough councillors approved plans for their conservatory after it had been built.

Andrew Pilling built a conservatory last year at the back of his home in Helmsley Close, but he wasn't aware that he needed to apply for planning permission.

The retrospective application was discussed at last week's meeting of the borough council's development control committee.

Councillors could have refused the application and ordered the conservatory to be taken down.

But ward councillor Jeff Richards spoke on Mr Pilling's behalf, saying: "Mr Pilling's neighbour is quite happy with the conservatory and is now considering putting up a similar one at his own property."
