Pensioner signs up be trust member

AN OAKMERE pensioner has become one of the first to sign up to be a Foundation Trust member of the NHS.

John Shagouri is currently receiving treatment at the Countess of Chester Hospital and has decided to become a Foundation Trust member in order to have more involvement in the development of services at the hospital.

Mr Shagouri said: "I've been receiving treatment at the Countess for many years.

"From what I've read, I understand that becoming a Foundation Trust hospital means that the Countess will receive more funding to make improvements for patients more quickly.

"It's good that patients and local people are going to have more of a say in the hospital and I look forward to finding out who will represent my area on the new council of members.

"I will also continue to help with fundraising at the hospital."

Anyone, living in west Cheshire, who is interested in becoming a member needs to call 01244 365816 for an application form which needs to be returned before February 20.

Susan Sellers, chairman of the foundation said: We also want to stress that it is for each individual member to decide just how much involvement in the Trust he or she wishes to have.

"All NHS Foundation Trust members will receive regular information about the hospital. They can also elect their representatives on the council of members.

"Some local people have said they wish to be consulted on plans for future development and services, others are happy to take part in surveys or discussion groups.

"Those who are keen to be more directly involved in the work of the new Trust, may want to stand for election to the council."
