CONTRACTORS have started work on the new recreation ground in Comberbach and are expected to complete phase one at the end of February.
This will include play equipment for toddlers, such as swings, slides and rockers, a junior play area with swings, slide and climbing frame and a quiet garden area with seating, flower beds and paving.
Work has already started on fundraising for phase two which incorporates a multi court and ariel cableway.
Steve Howard, chairman of Comberbach Recreation Ground committee said: "As part of the preparation for this phase we have undertaken a detailed consultation process with the teenagers of the village to ensure that the facilities provided meet the requirements of that particular age group.
"Hopefully by involving them in the process they will take on some responsibility for ensuring that those facilities are not spoilt by a small minority."
Meanwhile the group is planning a Valentine's dinner dance at Comberbach Memorial Hall on Friday, February 13 for adults only.
The evening will include a three-course meal, wine, bar, a live band, disco and tickets are likely to be priced at £15 per head.
Steve added: "The band, The Checkmates, are a very popular live band and it promises to be a great evening.
"There is the chance for all you romantics to wine, dine and dance the night away."
Tickets are limited so if you are interested, ring Bev Owen on 01606 892205.
