Joy for Mond at Lairds

IN the opening 15 minutes Mond were penned back and McCormick struck the upright.

After that Tull marshalled the Mond defence superbly and as the half wore on the visitors began to get at Laird, Nelson, Linnett and R Thompson all testing the keeper..

In the second half Mond scored when Eddie Droughton held off two defenders before shooting under the keeper.

Droughton got a second after he beat the home centre back, before being upended, he recovered quickly to fire the loose ball home.

Droughton was denied a hat trick when his lob was disallowed for offside.

Lairds pulled a goal back in the 67th minute when Brown scored following a free kick.

Mond's two-goal cushion was restored when Droughton was brought down, the penalty hammered home by Wayne Linnett.

Mond defending well and always looked dangerous on the break with Mike Thompson, Droughton and Nelson a constant threat. Droughton missed a sitter in the final minutes.

Man of the match for Mond was Paul Cogswell.

Next Saturday Mond are at home to Poulton Vics in a second division game, kick-off 2pm.

Mond Reserves visit West Kirby in the third division.

Mond's Thursday night bingo is open to new players, eyes down at 7.45pm at Pavilions. there is a £50 plus jackpot and £600 in snowballs every week. New members are welcome.
