Bidder named for suite

A BIDDER has been chosen to build the new Runcorn custody suite.

Cheshire Custody Services will build suites at Manor Park in Runcorn, Chester and Middlewich with public money under a Private Finance Initiative scheme.

The custody scheme will now move into the final phase of negotiations. The fine details will be ironed out before a formal contract is signed in the spring.

A liaison group is being set up so people living near the Runcorn suite can have their say on how it will work.

The plan for the Runcorn suite was opposed by residents group Save Our Sandymoor.

Group spokesman Chris Riley, said: "We employed a barrister from Manchester to look to see if we had a case for a judicial review of that decision but we were notified that we won't be able to so we've got to live with it.

"What we want is a good transport agreement to take the detainees away when they are released and we want the underpass leading to the estate sealing off. We can't keep fighting, we have got to start working with them."
