Last minute win for Clock Face

North West Counties Division Three

Albert Park 8

Clock Face 10

ALBERT Park lost to Clock Face who scored the match-winning try in the dying moments.

Albert took the lead when Stu Ward converted a penalty.

Clock Face came back strongly but it was the Albert who scored the first try when the Clock Face players all stopped, claiming a knock-on, leaving full back Roberts to play to the ref's whistle and score. Ward added the extras.

There was controversy on the stroke of half time when the Albert were awarded a penalty. Ward's shot at goal was given by both linesmen only for the ref to disallow it.

For the Albert props Snowling and Dicks continually made the hard yards down the middle while the back row of Ditchfield, Abram and O'Neill worked tirelessly in defence.

But the Albert defence was finally breached when the ball was moved out wide for Clock's centre to score an unconverted try.

Albert were unfortunate not to extend their lead when good approach play saw the ball moved out to Peter Holt whose strong running took him to the line only to see the ball knocked from his grasp as he reached out to put the ball down.

Going into the final minutes it looked as though the Albert were going to hold on but Clock Face put on one last attack and somehow scrambled over the try line.

The conversion was successful to give Clock Face a 10-8 win.

Richie O'Neill was named The Handyman's Van man of the match.

Albert Park travel to Oldham to take on Waterhead this week.
