IN the first division, leaders Moorfield were held to a scoreless draw at Monks Sports.

Relegation threatened Silverbirch were overwhelmed by Avon Athletic 5-2 at Birchwood, the results boosting Avon's survival hopes, who jump three places as a consequence.

Division two leaders Halton Borough beat Croft 1-0 to maintain their hold at the top. Runcorn Albion showed tremendous spirit to grab a draw at Burtonwood Albion.

Beechwood continued their pursuit of the leaders with a 2-1 win over Grange Safeway to move within a point of Runcorn Albion.

Spartak produced their best result of the season with a 2-1 win at Parklands. Fellow basement battlers Matthiola were swamped 5-0 by General Chemicals. Appleton Arms remain top of division three but were troubled by lowly Newton Juniors conceding four goals in their 6-4 win.

Second placed Mill Brow were well on top in their derby with Village Social but were unable to convert pressure into goals.

Graham Shone, Brian Buckley and Paul Giles scored in the 3-1 win that preserves Mill Brow's challenge. FC Trannie stay on the heels of the leaders with a 3-2 win at The Grapes. In reserve division one Blackbrook beat Moorfield 2-1. In reserve division two Halton Borough beat Whiston Cross 3rd 2-0.

Rainhill Town's third string were held to an amazing 4-4 draw by bottom side St Michael's in reserve division three. Orford YC Reserves moved above Monks after beating Widnes R&S 2-0.
