Highway faults to be reported online

FAULTY street lights, blocked grids and other highway faults can now be reported on-line following the launch of a new Cheshire County Council web page.

Members of the public who spot non-emergency faults can alert the county's engineering service by completing a simple online form at www.cheshire.gov.uk/highways

Non-emergency faults include cracked paving, street lights out, blocked grids and damaged traffic signs and bollards.

Emergency faults such as flooding, dangerous trees and winter maintenance problems must continue to be reported in the usual way by telephone.

David Robinson, Labour's environment spokesman, was involved in trials of the new page before its launch.

He said: "Cheshire's highways are subject to regular maintenance checks but when an unexpected fault occurs - such as damage to traffic signs - it is the public who are our eyes."

Every fault reported online will be acknowledged and allocated a customer and enquiry reference number. The work will be prioritised following investigation and a member of staff will get back in touch if necessary.

Emergency faults in Vale Royal can be reported on 01606 815070.
